The national rustic barn wedding trend has always been popular in Maine. Lucky for us, we have an abundance of historic barns, the latest to the line-up is the Barn at Hardy Farm in Fryeburg.
Just over an hour from Portland, minutes from North Conway, near Kezar Lake and the Saco River, and known for its annual fair, Fryeburg is centrally located to a host of outdoor activities in the Mount Washington Valley.
Built in 1835, the barn and attached farmhouse (built in 1750) was a private residence in the Hardy family for ten generations. Most recently a B&B, the current owners approached me in February to help them turn it into a wedding and destination event property.
The barn, which can accommodate 102 seated (150 standing), recently underwent a major renovation including a total refurbishing of the building's entire structure. In addition, the mezzanine, staircases, windows and chandeliers are all new, and the walls have been finished in a modern white wash. The barn is heated and has air conditioning (a bonus for New England's unpredictable weather!), and has a sprinkler system (so you are actually allowed to use real candles!).
It is possible to just rent the barn for an event, or the barn and the adjoining house (sleeps 18 in 7 bedrooms) and/or the lodge, a short walk through the woods (sleeps 14 in 3 bedrooms). Hardy Farm has several ceremony options on the property, too (the lawn, the garden, the gazebo or the woods). A ceremony in the garden, dinner under a tent on the lawn (80' tent possible) and dancing in the barn? Sounds like a winning combination to me!
In just a few short weeks of launching the new brand and the website being up, we have had an amazing barn warming, pulled off a stylized shoot, moved the site to the first page of Google for Maine Barn Wedding and have generated enough excitement to be filling the calendar for more than a dozen weddings next year already!
