A Peace of my Mind: Michael Kiesow Moore
Michael Kiesow Moore teaches a class he calls “Writing Peace into the World.” He uses writing as a tool for exploring what we know about peace and as a method for accessing peace in our own lives. For Michael, the creative process leads to peace. He has helped coordinate public readings that focus on peace and a festival called “Art of Peace”. Michael believes we need to bring peace into our lives in small ways, because these small steps can ripple to larger issues.
About the Project:
A Peace of My Mind began out of the belief that if a single voice can make a small difference, then together, many voices can make a tremendous impact.
In early 2009, photographer John Noltner began interviewing people about their thoughts on peace. The interviews were recorded digitally and combined with a B&W portrait.
The goal is to create a collection of thoughts on peace from people with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences and to use that collection of interviews to foster a larger public conversation on the subject.
The project is based on the premise that we all have important thoughts to share. We all have a view of peace that is very personal...whether that means political peace, spiritual peace, inner peace or something entirely unexpected. And the belief is that at the core, we are all the same...we all long for and dream for the same things.
More than 50 people have been interviewed for A Peace of My Mind. I am currently in the process of producing an exhibit that can be used by school and community groups to help foster dialogue about issues such as conflict resolution, tolerance, diversity and civic responsibility.
So the hope is that through conversation, we will begin to understand each other a little better. By sharing, we will create a sense of community, and in our own way , make a stand for peace...in our own lives, in our communities, and in the world that we share.
It’s that simple...join us...and share A Peace of Your Mind.

Burgers become true fast food at 87 mph
One cafe wants to redefine "fast food."
Inspired by the Tube Transport System in "Futurama," Sam Crofskey of C1 Espresso in Christchurch, New Zealand, is installing a system of pneumatic tubes that will deliver mini burgers (sliders) and nachos to tables at speeds of up to 97 miles per hour.
It's not exactly a new technology; pneumatic tubes have been used to transport messages since the 1850s, and have subsequently been employed over the years as a secure transportation method for cash and medications, as well as an alternative to trains. Indeed, C1 has been using a smaller system to transport orders to the kitchen. By combining the two systems, C1 hopes to reduce wait times -- and toss hotter, fresher food into the bargain.

World's unluckiest men
Do you think of yourself as an unlucky person? Many people curse their luck after missing a train, or failing on the lottery once again. These men take the biscuit when it comes to misfortune, so next time you ask yourself ‘why me?’ count your blessings that you're not as unlucky as them.

Roy Sullivan was a US park ranger who became known as the human lightning conductor after being struck by lightning seven times on separate occasions. He earned himself a Guinness world record for his misfortune but sadly took his own life in 1983 aged 71.
Henry Ziegland didn’t know how much trouble he was going to cause when he broke up with his girlfriend in 1883. She was so distraught that she killed herself. Her brother then looked to avenge her death by shooting Ziegland, and then himself. The bullet only skimmed Ziegland and became lodged in a tree, and that should have been the end of this story, but it isn’t. Ziegland went back to the scene 20 years later so that he could blow up the tree in which the bullet was lodged (WHY?). The tree clearly didn’t take kindly to this and propelled the bullet back at Ziegland, killing him.
John Lyne can take the title of Britain’s unluckiest man and has earned himself the nickname ‘Calamity John’. He has suffered 16 major accidents, including three car crashes and a lightning strike. He was a victim of 'Friday the 13th' bad luck as a child, when he broke his arm falling from a tree, only to break it again in a bus crash on his way back from the hospital that was treating his injury.
A man in Brazil died after a cow fell through his roof, crushing his leg. The 1,360kg cow escaped from a nearby farm then climbed onto the roof, which collapsed – dropping the animal onto de Souza’s bed, where he was sleeping with his wife by his side. The man was taken to hospital but, sadly, died soon after. The man’s wife and the cow were both unharmed.
John Wade Agan has cheated death way more than is normal. He’s been robbed at gunpoint and locked in the boot of his car, stabbed in the chest with a butcher’s knife, and allegedly bitten by two snakes – at the same time. More recently he was struck by lightning (obviously) in his own kitchen.
Frane Selak doesn’t have much luck with transport. He has been in a plane crash, a train derailment, a bus crash and two car explosions as well as being run over by a bus and driving his car off a cliff. After all his trauma, karma came to his rescue and he won a million dollars in the Croatian lottery. He prefers to be seen as the world’s luckiest man, rather than unluckiest, but we’re not so sure.
Earlier this year a snake appeared from inside a toilet in Israel and bit a man where no man wants to be bitten as he was doing his business. Fortunately for him, the snake was not venomous and he was not seriously hurt.
Jason Cairns-Lawrence and his wife Jenny were at the scene of the September 11 attacks in New York, as well as the 7 July attacks in London. This didn't seem to be enough to confine them to the safety of their sofas forever - in 2008 they travelled to Mumbai, only to find themselves at the scene of major terrorist shootings. They have, unsurprisingly, given up any further travelling ambitions.
